| Dipping our toes in the Mediterranean |
Today Rome FINALLY warmed up. It was 70 degrees out, so Christina, Nicole, and I seized the opportunity and headed to the BEACH after class today. After getting lost about 8 times on the way there because we left our directions at home, we finally made it to the beach. There is a tram that's free that takes you right to Lido di Ostia from Rome. It's only about 35 minutes away... which is SUCH a nice change from the 7 hour car ride to the closest beach at home. I wasn't really expecting much, considering Rome isn't known for its beaches, but it was absolutely gorgeous. The town was a precious little coastal town. Most places were closed up because it was off season, but it had lots of restaurants on the waterfront and a pretty pier. We were able to lay out (even in bathing suits!) and I took an amazing nap on the beach. We put our feet in the water so we could say we went in the Mediterranean Sea, but it was freezing. Although it was 70 degrees, it was so weird because all the locals were wearing the same outfits that they were wearing in the snow - winter jackets, scarves, and hats. We definitely looked like Americans today running around the beach in our shorts and bathing suits. Now we're all obsessed with the fact that the beach is so close, so we're going again on Saturday! :)
